The Staff and Trustees of
Home-Start North Somerset wish you a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
The office will close at 2.30pm on Thursday 21st December and re-open on Tuesday 2nd January at 9am
At the end of November we held our second carol concert, this time in Clevedon. It was lovely to see families, volunteers, trustees, staff and people new to Home-Start joining together to start the festive season off with a bang. Thank you to Christchurch who made us very welcome. After enjoying carols and varied readings we finished off the evening with mince pies and Nicky’s infamous mulled wine!
This is a busy time for us at Home-Start – we have attended Christmas Fayres in Backwell, Weston, Worle and Clevedon selling our home-made chutneys, jams, reindeer noses, fantastic brooches made by our friends and more – spreading the word about Home-Start and raising some money towards the work we do with families.
We hope you will enjoy a lovely Christmas with your friends and family.
We are looking for some enthusiastic people, who are committed to the work of Home-Start, to join us as trustees, helping to run this valuable charity.
If you have a few hours each month you could give to this interesting and rewarding role, please contact the office for an informal chat with a trustee to find out more. We look forward to hearing from you.

Home-Start North Somerset recently held a Garden Tea Party in Clevedon. The delicious cakes were donated by volunteers, friends and trustees. It was a lot of fun and also raised £105 towards our fundraising target.
Thanks to Rosie for hosting the event, everyone who came and made the afternoon such a success.
Thank you to the Trustees for all their hard work.

She is really looking forward to meeting and working with you all.
If you would like to find out more about the project or how it could help you please give Karen a call at our office.
I have been volunteering with Home-Start for 18 months now after completing my 10 week training course in January 2016.
On my retirement from paid work I was looking for a voluntary role in which I could help others. I saw an advert in our Church Newsletter and was encouraged to apply by my Minister’s wife.
I have been involved in children’s work both in a paid and voluntary capacity through many years and being a Mum/Grandma myself I was looking for some way to help families in need of a little extra support.
I was also looking for a role which was flexible enough to accommodate the dates on which I could offer support.
The family I supported had new born twins and I really enjoyed feeding and playing with them. I spent time listening to the Mum who valued having an adult with whom to talk as well as taking over with child care so she could have a shower or wash her hair and feel a bit more human again. We discussed possible options for child care for Mum’s return to work as well as generally being a “stand- in” Grandma and encouraging her in her child care. It has been wonderful to see her change over the months and to watch the boys grow as well.
If you love children and helping others then I would advise people to give it a go.
You will be well supported and trained by the Home- start team.
It is very rewarding to see the changes that can be made in families by simply spending time with them.
